ABSTRACT

The uncinate process is the most important landmark of the lateral nasal wall in functional endoscopic sinus surgery. The first step of the surgical procedure is to remove the uncinate process in order to expose the natural ostium. Then the natural ostium is widened, and the nasal fontanelle is opened. An abnormal-sized and over-pneumatized uncinate process can disrupt the natural drainage of the paranasal sinuses. In this report, we present a case of bilateral extensive pneumatized, medialized and infected uncinate processes which presented as chronic sinusitis.

Keywords: Uncinate process, pneumatized, medialized, infected
