ABSTRACT
The results of antibiotic sensitivity testing of 68 gram negative organism (including 32 Klebsiella species, ll enterabaeter specıes, 4 serratia species, 3 proteus species and 1 acinetobacter species) isolated from neonatal septicemia cases in 1994 was found to be as fallows: ampicillin 1 sulbactam 12 (18%), amikacin 26 (38%), gentamicin 21 (30%), cefotaxim 30 (44%) and imipenem 1 cilastatin 45 (87%). There was a high incidence of resıstance against same antibiotics wich have been very often usedin neonatal septicemia, such as ampicillin 1 sulbactam, cefotaxim and aminoglycosides. Imipenem 1 cilastatin was the most effective antibiotic in these cases but unfortunately we have not got enough experience or information about its elinical use and probable ad verse effects in neonatal period. In conclusion choosing the right antibiotic in gram negative sepsis of newbom has been a serious problem.
