ABSTRACT
Wallenberg's syndrome refers to a brain stem disorder accompanied by los s of pain and temperature se nsation on one side of the body contralateral to the lesion, and long tract fındings such as ipsilateral ataxia and Horners syndrome, and involvement of nuclei and fascicles of the V, VIII, IX and Xth cranial nerves. It occurs due to the involvement of posterior inferior cerebellar artery or verte b ral arteries or superior, middle, inferior lateral medullary arteries. We retrospectively reviewed 18 cases diagnosed as having Wallenberg's sydrome in SSK İstanbul Training Hospital between June 1994 and 1997. Fourteen patients were male and four patients were female with a mean age 55 years. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) demonstrated infaretion confıned to the lateral medulla in six patients, infaretion in the lateral medulla accompanied by brain stem infarction, and infaction in the posterior inferior cerebellar artery in 1 O patients. We investigated the correlation between the elinical presentation and MR! fındings in patients with Wallenberg's sydrome.
