ABSTRACT

Exogen surfactant was administered to 10 premature babies for prophylaxis and therapy. Their gestational ages were 24-33 weeks and birth weights were between 930- 2100 gram. The first surfactant dose was adminestered just after the delivery or within eight hours of delivery and the second dose was given eight hours after the first dose (survanta 100 mg/kg, 4 ml/kg). Both doses were given intratracheally. Of the cases to whom surfactant to whom surfactant were applied, two patients died. First death was in the second day and the second death was occured because of sepsis in the late period. Eight cases were discharged without any remarkable complication.
