ABSTRACT

Postpartum hemorrhage whıch is the most comman cause of serious blood lass in obstetrics, has most often been defıned as lass of blood, ın excess of 500 ml., during the first 24 hours after deli ver, Potpartum hemorrhage has been found in about 5 percent of all deliveries. The most comman ca u ses are, uterine atony, lacerations of the genital tract and retention of placenta. In management, vigorous massage of the uterıne fund us, use of myometrial contracting age n ts, manual exploratıon of the endometrial cavity, hypogastric or uterine artery ligation or embolizatian must be performed respectively. If hemorrage could not stopped wıth all these atempts, histerectom may ve neccessary. But death from postpartum hemorrhage must be very rare in current obstetrical practice. In this artıcle, our experience and literature, about postpartum hemorrhage are reviewed.
