ABSTRACT
Aim:
To evaluate the frequency and importance of epithelial and non-epithelial malignant ovarian tumors retrospectively.
Material and Methods:
158 patients with diagnosis of a malignant ovarian tumor who were applied to our clinic and followed between 1985-2003,are evaluated retrospectively according to their histologic types, stages, surgical managements and adjuvant therapies.
Findings:
%61 of the patients were 50 years and older.128 cases (%80) had malignant epithelial ovarian tumors and 30 cases (%20) non-epithelial malignant ovarian tumors. Among epithelial ovarian tumors, the most commonly seen histologic type was the serous type with 90(%70) cases.55 cases (%34) were diagnosed being in Stage-I ,18 cases (%12) in Stage-II, 41 cases (%26) in Stage-III and 44 cases (%28) in Stage-IV.
Result:
We tried to take attention to the malignant tumors of ovaries with this study again because their early diagnosis is hard and most of them are diagnosed at later stages so that their mortality rates are high.
