ABSTRACT
β- Thalassemia is an important health problem in o ur country as other Mediterranen countries. The gene frequency for β-Thalassemia approaches 2% in Turkey in general whereas is some regions it general may rise up to 10% .. Between June 1996 and January 1997, 85 pregnant women with a mean age of28.63±6.29 years (range: 19-42) were screened for β-Thalassemia trait using FBC (Full Blood Count) and column anion exchange chromatography for HbA2 measurement and Singer's alkaline denaluration for HbF measurement. In 85 pregnant women, 10 women were β-Thalassemia trait.
