ABSTRACT

Conclusion:

Smoking has a negative effect on disability with the multple sclerosis patients.

Results:

There were 54 female and 74 male patients. The age avarage is 39. It is established that the EDSS level of 37% of the patients was 0-3.0, 14.1% of them was 3.0-5.0 and 48% of them was >5.0. 61 of the patients were nonsmokers while 67 of them were smokers. It is determined that there is a certain difference on the EDSS level of the nonsmokers and smokers.

Methods:

In this survey the relation between the smoking of 128 patients (74 female, 54 male; age avarage 39) diagnosed as ms according to Mc Donald criterions in the Neorology Clinic of Istanbul Education and Research hospital and their Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) are compared.

Objective:

The aim of this survey is to investigate the effect of smoking on disability with the patients diagnosed as multple sclerosis.
