ABSTRACT
Vaginal and cervical adenosis is rare finding and mostly seen in young women who are exposed to Diethylstilbestrol (DES) in utero. As a result of normal embriologic development extending of the glandular tissue which is only seen in cervical canal, to the endoservix and vagina is called adenosis. Adenosis is one of the most common anomalies which are seen in women exposed to DES in utero and seen in 34% of the women who are exposed to DES in utero. Clear cell and squamous cell carsinoma are frequently found in adenosis areas. For this reason, the risk of cancer increased in cases with adenosis. Before DES usage, Clear cell adenocarsinoma of the cervix and vagina was seen very rare and only in very old women. Clear cell adenocarcinoma of the cervix and vagina is seen more frequent and 0.01% of the women who are exposed to DES in utero. In these cases clear cell carcinoma is mostly seen in young ages but there is no upper limit age for clear cell carcinoma. The risk of clear adenocarcinoma is high in women who are exposed to DES in all lifetime. This risk decreases as the age increases. The survival rate is more than 80% if it is diagnosed early. In this article a case wich is with vaginal clear cell adenocarcinoma under cervical and vaginal adenosis background that may be related to suspected DES exposure is presented and the relationship with DES is discussed.
