ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to determine cesarean delivery rates, cesarean section indications, postoperative complications, maternal morbidity and perinatal mortality at Istanbul Education and Research Hospital, and to compare these rates with the goals of Ministry of Health. 593 cases were evaluated retrospectively who underwent cesarean section between 01.01.2008 and 31.12.2008.
2008 cesarean section rate was 37,9%. Our primary cesarean section rate was 20,7%. These rates were relatively high due to our hospital’s being a training reference center. Previous cesarean was the leading cesarean indication with the rate of 44,2%. The average age was 28,25. 14,5% of the patients were 35 years old or above. The mean hospitalization time was 3,36 days. 16,5% of the patients were undergone bilateral tubal ligation. Various complications were seen in 3,4% of the patients. 5,1% of the patients needed blood transfusion. There was no maternal mortality. Perinatal mortality rate was 0,17%. Considering cesarean delivery, which has short and long term complications as a major surgery, guidelines of the health authorities should be obeyed definitely.
