ABSTRACT

Osteochondromas are the most commonly seen benign bone tumor, usually originating from metaphyses of long bones. They are rarely located in the vertebral column, and if seen, they are usually located in the cervical vertebrae. Diagnosis of an osteochondroma originating from spinous process of T9 vertebrae was established in a 9-year-old female patient presenting with pain and swelling at the thoracic region after physical examination and radiological studies. Patient was treated by en bloc resection, and diagnosis was confirmed after histopathological examination. The patient was asymptomatic at the 1-year follow-up, and there was no recurrence of the lesion. The purpose of our study was to present a case of an osteochondroma originating from spinous process of thoracic vertebrae, which was seen very rarely when the literature was evaluated.
