ABSTRACT

Male patient, aged 40 is applied to the hospital with the complaints of right hemifascial burning sensation and right hemiparesia. There was no important risk, factors, no tobacco and alcohol consumption. During neurologic examination; right hemiparesia, right hemihypoesthesia and decrease of tonus in right upper and lower extremities was present. The special disorder wasn’t seen in cranical CT, but there was subacute ischemic approximatelly 2 cm. lesion in medulla oblangata in the right paramedian region cranial MR. Right vertebral artery was hypoplasic and there was fenestration of basillery artery in MR Angiography. At the digital substration angiography, we observed dissection in V1 segments of both vertebral arteries and in V2 segmends in right vertebral artery. Recent studies showed that, vertebral artery atherosclerosis is one of the major causes of medial medullary syndrome. Vertebral artery dissection is a for less common cause of this disease, so we planned to present this case of MMS caused by vertebral artery dissection.
