In this experiment our main goal was to examine the hemodynamics of mitral homograft with wound healing and implantation technique. Transplantation of mitral homograft was performed on five dogs and one sheep at the animal hospital of Bursa Municipality and the animal laboratory of Uludağ University between December 1995 and October 1996. A pilot study was performed to gain experience for surgical exploration and extracorporeal circulation via ten dogs. In the real study, previously prepared mitral homografts were implanted on five dogs and one sheep with extracorporeal circulation. Vital findings were recorded both during operation and in early postoperative period. The animals underwent autopsy 48 hours after operation and the technique of implantation was investigated. Microbiologic cultures were taken from homografts. Biopsies were taken from papillary muscle of dogs and sheep and histopathologic examination was done. In spite of the peroperative hemodynamic measurements and detailed examination of implantation technique, we were not able to investigate the advanced hemodynamics and wound healing of mitral homograft due to early death of subject.
