OBJECTIVE:

We investigated the correlation between the clinical presentation and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings in patients with Wallenberg's syndrome.

METHODS:

We reviewed 45 patients diagnosed as Wallenberg's syndrome in our neurology clinic between June 2008 and July 2009. 32 patients were male and 13 patients were female with a mean age 64 years.

RESULTS:

MRI demonstrated infarction confined to the lateral medulla in 26 patients, infarction in the lateral medulla accompanied by brain stem infarction in 6 patients, and infarction in the lateral medulla accompanied by ipsilateral cerebellar infarction in 13 patients.

CONCLUSION:

We established the most seen neurologic symptom is in stability, the most seen neurologic clinical sign is ataxia and the most involved anatomical localizalion is middle medulla of lateral medulla in patients with Wallenberg's syndrome.
