Pyeloplasty in Patients With Ureteropelvic Stenosis

58 pyeloplasty operations were performed for 57 patients during the 1990-1995 period. 39 patients were males and 18 females. Mean age of the patients were 39 (range 6-71 years). The mean follow-up of the patients were 20 months (range 4- 54 months). 23 patients had right and 34 had left ureteropelvic junction (UPJ) obstructions. One patient presented with bilateral UPJ obstruction. Obstruction was due to aberrant polar vessells in 17 cases, intrinsic ureteral stenosis in 21 cases, segmental dysfunction in ll cases and high insertion of the ureter in 19 patients. Patients were evaluated by intravenous pyelography (NP) and by diuretic renogram in selected cases both pre-operatively and post-operatively. The first fallow-up control was done on the fourth month and then w ith 6 month intervals. The surgical techniques utilized were Anderson-Hyness type dysmembered pyeloplasty in 45 cases, Foley Y-V plasty in 6 cases, Scardino-Culp pyeloplasty in 2 and Davis intubated plasty in 1 case. Aberrent vessel excision was performed in 4 cases. This report analize s the out-come of these operations comparing the surgical techniques, ürinery diverions used and the associated complications, in view of the literature.
