The most important factor in the prevention of hospital diseases is the adherence to handwashing rules. However, the disinfection of instruments used also plays a role.

It has been tried to assess the effectiveness of the 2% gluteraldehide solutions which are used as instrument disinfectants in our hospital. Reproduction has been detected in 3.2% of the samples and streptococcus, staphylococcus and bacillus have been identified as the active bacteria. Cases showing reproduction have been followed-up; no infection-related complications have been detected. The reproduction of skin flora microorganisms in single colony in the culture has been evaluated as contamination and the performed disinfection has been thought as effective and reliable.
