Effect of Lipemia on Glucose Oxidase Method

Objectives:

Many factors have been defined that affect clinical biochemistry results. Lipemia holds an important place among these factors. In this study, we planned to investigate the reported lipemia interference by adding exogenous lipid during glucose measurements/analysis using the Siemens Advia system.

Methods:

We used 5 different levels of serum pools obtained from patients with high triglyceride levels. Instead of adding exogenous lipid, we added glucose to obtain different glucose concentrations.

Results:

As compared with the reference method, the variation rates in pools with normal glucose concentration were: 2.28, 2.08, 2.11, 2.10, and 2.85, respectively. In pools with 160 mg/dl glucose concentration, the variation rates were: 3.17, 2.97, 3.09, 3.09, and 4.06, respectively.

Conclusion:

Our results support the idea that use of exogenous and endogenous triglycerides can produce different interference rates in lipemia interference studies.
