Venous thromboembolism (venous thrombosis and/or pulnomary embolism) usually complicates the course of sick, hospitalizated patients sut may also affect ambulatory and otherwise apparently healthy persons. Pulmonary embolism is the most common preventable cause of death in the hospital. Effective and safe prophylaxis is clearly more effective for preventing death and morbidity from venous thromboembolism than is treatment of the established disease. In this article a case of pulmonary thromboembolism which was seen in a young male patient who has protein C deficiency has been presented. Risk factors predisposing to development of venous thromboembolism should be kept in mind in pulmonary thromboembolism, and primary prophylaxis should be done in very high risk patients.
